BUT: with zero croos detection and controlled triggering of the triac can't you control the wave form and the effective voltage?

ex. a triac triggered at 0 degrees, cutted at 90, triggered at 180 and cutted again at 270 degress wouldn't generate a waveform that has an effective voltage of 60V?

Am I correct? If I am correct the implementation of that circuit is left as an exercise for the reader :-)
