Guys can you hear the tom-tom...? OK Babar coming back to your question : What resolution and range are you looking for ? Look for LVDT probes - like the ones offered by Baker. You get a analog out and then you can digitize it for transmission. The only problem here is that the span keeps reducing as you increase your resolution specs. I just used a probe with 3mm span but with 0.1 micron resolution. I generally had a feeling that the linear encoders used in caliphers are of the optical type and are difficult to source and use.
