Okay all that suggestions about book is fine.I have that book it is a good book costs around $55 to get it in India.

If you don't want to break you head trying tomakemscomm work, just change the vbterm program in msdn according to your needs I assume your uC is sending data in ASCII format.

Once you capture the data coming from the serial port in avariable you can do anything with it..All types of string operations

This what I did .. You can write your own code if you are a good vb programmer ..I am not a good programmer of any lang.

Also may I add, you need to set correct baud rate on both sides, else you will get junk data
