Shouldn't be a problem - after all, PCs routinely do 115k2!

As a matter of personal preferene, I don't like flat cables - I find them to be a lot more cumbersome than traditional round ones.
But that's just me - I don't see any technical reason why you shouldn't do it.

You'll still need a suitable transceiver (MAX232 etc), of course...
