well ISO 7816 is avaiable at www.ISO.org but its not free.

I m implementing a Sim Card reader for GSM Mobiles. The thing is:

When i Send 8-bit data through serial port from a PC to some micro-controller, it is in the form of 10-bit or 12-bit data (serially) due to the start bit, parity bit and stop bit.

Also for GSM standard Sim:

Select comand has follwing structure (bytes):

----- INS ----- P1 ----- P2 ----- P3 -----
----- A4 ----- 00 ----- 00 ----- 02 -----


Now the question is do i have to send only valid bytes information or i have to pad each 8-bit value with start and stop bits or parity bit?
