There is no shortcut to a project like this the project which you have chosen is not for novices as its not so simple. You want a multiplexed display with four FND modules, Timing plus stepper motor control I don't think its very simple for a beginer It will take some time for you to learn these things if you are beginer. Start with simple things such as coutdown timer with one digit display as Raghu said and then go ahead with your main project.
