While higher baudrates can be achieved with relatively low clock frequencies; however, the problem soon becomes handling the UART interrupts fast enough.
A rough estimate gives you 60 instructions per byte with a 12 clocker at a 12MHz clock. This is more than good enough if the transmission bursts are smaller than your ring buffer, but ot herwise you can easily get in trouble. Erik |
