Let all to who say "OLD IS BAD" take heed from this experience and learn that time (RC reset, 8255 IC's, parallel programmers, transistor RS232 level changers, etc.) proven things have a place.
While old may not necessarily be bad it will be or is alredy discontined. To suggest that MAX232 equivalents or supervisors is a problem re sourcing is uttely ridiculous since the popular types thereof all have a multitude of sources AND the basic functionality has not changed for decades.
