I don't know how efficient they are, compared to Keil, but take a look at the SDCC and uC/51 C compilers.Here are the links:
1) http://sdcc.sourceforge.net/ 2) http://www.wickenhaeuser.com/ I have to tell you that SDCC is completely free, while uC/51 has a demo with a limitation of 8K code, instead of the 2K limit of Keil's tools. It is also cheaper, if you want to buy the full version (about 100$). A third option is Reads51. That's free too, but it seems that is not developed anymore. The last version came out at June 2002.
