Thanks for those good points. I had not considered the interruption to framing caused by the realtime messages.

Any code you are willing to share would be greatly appreciated. I am still coming to grips with the whole thing. I've reverse engineered the Doepfer Schaltwerk sequencer and that was my only reason for learning 8051 programming :)
