I have been trying to use the SAA1064 display driver for a 4 digit display. Its working - no problem there.

However one thing is baffling. The control word has an option to blank digit 1&3 or 2&4. Now what kind of an application would require this kind of a wonky blanking scheme ? ( Trailing zero suppression or leading zero blanking etc appear to have a purpose in life...) But what does such an alternate blanking serve?
