the problem was solved by connecting the shield to chassis of both devices to same earth.

If both devices are connected to the same ground (both wired to the same POINT) it probably makes no difference if the shield is connected in both ends (I wouldn't) but if they are grounded to different ground points the shiled will carry the difference (be it noise or melting currents) which effectively makes the shield a noise radiator rather than a shield.
