Gregory indicated he is using a CPU that is a 24 MHz 8051 clone. http://www.8052.com/forum/read.phtml?id=76355

So he can't use Timer 2 because it doesn't exits in a 8051 IC.

He can use 9600 with T1 and SMOD=1 as the maximum.

Still his original program can't handle 31.25k baud which might be one the reasons it is not working
