2. If you want to learn how eactly you should connect your 8051 and 24cxx have a loot at this app-note.

3. In order to learn details of i2c bus. Read app-notes on i2c available at http://www.semiconductors.philips.com/buses/i2c/

4. Try to write your own i2c interface routines. & if you cann't write on your own Here is the link to an excellent i2c interface routine by Peter Danneger.
