Use a look-up table. I built a cockpit display for my sail-boat, connected to the rotary echo-sounder & the log. The log gives a pulse every 1/100th mile, & the echo-sounder gives a 0° pulse followed by the echo pulse. OK, so the log gives a pulse every 6 seconds at 6 knots, but it's all a question of scale. I built this thing after once running aground in the Schelde river estuary, north of Antwerp - now I have a constant display of the profile of the sea/river bottom over the last 10/1/.1 miles - good for peace of mind! Oh yes, & it uses an LCD & it's water-proof & it also displays a count-down timer for racing & the buoy sequence (on an 8085, which is almost as good!).
