Absolutely! Lookatit this way: if you're developing a USB device, you can download the specs for free. The gotcha is when you go into production and want to put it on the market; then you've gotta fork over $1500 for a Vendor ID. Of course, you need a PCI Vendor ID as well ... TANSTAAFL. Remember that Vendor and Device IDs are used by the OS for driver matching, and they need to be unique. Anyways, back to the PCI Spec issue -- the Mindshare book is $40 or so and contains pretty much everything that's in the spec, and it's a whole lot more readable! -a |
