Thanks for the advice,it actualy came about because you can already buy this type of speaking bar code scanner with a laser thingy but they are rather expensive.I have seen ones which use a handheld wand type reader and also one with a scanner.They want the wand type for reasons of cost more than anything else and i assume that its going to be a matter of trial and error as to whether they find the barcode.
