I think that Geert meant a cpld rather than a gate array,ive never actualy used any of these 'view logic' type systems i prefer the VHDL which eric doesn't like but either way its all do-able.Of course you can use vhdl to instantiate the macros which your cpld vendor has written to emulate 74xx gates which is possibly a good way to go,if you use the webpack software from xilinx which is free but sligtly huge you'll find all applications you need.
