#80863 - Crackers - origin... Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Hi Graham,
I am not really clear whether fireworks are a modern, and possibly UK specific, addition to Diwali celebrations? My granpa used to say that he has celebrated Diwali when he was young with so much of crackers that it will be difficult for us guys to comprehend. Accepted, you cannot take what all your grandpa says on face value - but still I think crackers have been there during his childhood - which puts it around circa 1900 ! If I am not mistaken, it was the Chinese who were good at these pyro technic stuff and then it kind of travelled from there Westward. There are lots of Hindu mythological stories ( dating 2000 years back) that refer to use of Pyro Technics during social celebrations. So thats some "hearsay" history for your consumption! Thanks for the greetings. Raghu |
