you can do real time DSP stuff with a microcontroller, as long as you're dealing with singnals of very, very low frequency and you can use a very, very low sampling rate. I wouldn't recommend it, but in theory it is possible :)

Hans, thanks for making things clearer. Yes, I mean that *any* non-real time DSP can be done on any uC. Stated in another way, real-time one-dimensional DSP can only be achieved if the system has processed a sample before there is another input sample waiting.

Now a question: anyone remembers the Am9511 and Am9512, and know of a site with their datasheets?
