I won't say with certainty that that photo is a hoax, but I suspect it is. First, the font looks more like something you'd find in Microsoft Word than circa 1954 Popular Mechanics. Second, there's no way I believe that the editors at Popular Mechanics would have made such a grammatical error as "Scientists... have created this model to illustrate how a "home computer" could look like in the year 2004." They might have written "...how a "home computer" could look in the year 2004." Or they might have written "... what a "home computer" could look like in the year 2004." But the caption, as depicted, would never have made it to print. In any case, I'll believe it when I see the back issue at the library. Okay. I should have read the other posts first. Anyway, it is still amusing. |
