Yes Steve you are correct.
But when you get a compete package it is called a generator set even it it has an alternator as the power converter. When you see a big stationary power plant it is called a generating plant. The terminology never changed when they switched the technology Lower Generator efficiency relates to the iron lossed more than commutation losses. My comment was that the alternator at 86% to 95% efficient or even generator at 75% is very efficient when comparesd to the complete packaged unit that you need to actually produce power. Terry |
