Hi Michael,

Thanks for the brain storming.

What I did not mention in the original post are the following additional facts :

- The 89c52 also interfaces with two 4-digit thumbwheel switches for setting the CW and CCW reversal points.

- It also controls three relays to mark the CW, Zero and CCW match points.

Thus both in terms of the pin count and software overhead, it is almost upto its capability. In fact running short of pins only I had to select a display driver with IIC interface. In the current setup I just have two pins on the MCU to spare!

I was only trying to figure out if I can get away with the addition of a new PCB for analog out function - but as I get into the details it is now gradually dawning that the MCU will have to change. Let me see.
