I think the better way would be if we allow a Student's corner and let them post there whatever they have to. This way we will have less and less pollution of the core forum with naive posts. I don't think that's such a good idea. The "quality" of a question does not depend on who asks it (student, newbie, or otherwise), or whether it's "homework" - a good question is one where the poster has obviously given some thought to the problem, and taken care in contructing the question with sufficient detail to allow readers to answer it intelligently. If a student has worked hard on their homework, used the resources at their disposal, and is genuine stuck on some point, it is perfectly valid for them to seek help here. There have, in fact, been some jolly good posts just like this. In the case of this thread, we can see that the poster has at least read the datasheet. Maybe he just hadn't realised the pattern in the truth table, and Russel's hint is enough to get him going (it must be said that the datasheet is a bit unhelpful in presenting the bits "backwards"). What we want to avoid is the lamers (students, newbies, or otherwise) who have clearly done no work themselves and simply want to be handed a free answer on a plate; and those who have clearly given no thought in composing their question as to whether it gives enough information to be able to answer it. |
