I'm still looking at the "new" message icon problem.

I know that previously a common problem was that when you first arrived at the site, the correct threads/messages would be marked as "New." However, this is recorded using a single Cookie which means as soon as you read a new message, that becomes your newest "new" message. If you then read messages in another thread that have a lower ID number, the "new" icon will not appear since you at that point have read a newer message.

I'm trying to think of some innovative way to handle this; I have a couple of ideas, but I haven't worked out the details yet.
