#87069 - Modem speed 2 Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Andy Neil said:
Remember that an analogue modem cannot ever send over 34k or so over an analogue phone line. While DCE-DCE (modem-to-modem) speed is max.33600 bps (using V.34), thanks to compression (V42) the DTE-DCE (mcu/PC-to-modem) peak rate may be substantially higher. Andy Neil said:
Also, if you are only sending small amounts of data at a time, it can actually be qucker to use a slow modem rather than a fast one! This is because fast modems take a long time to "train." It is not necessary to use a slow modem; almost any modern modems can limit the acceptable range of modulations and speeds. For example, for Rockwell/Conexant-based modems, see the AT+MS command.
