Ive just been looking at the lastest FPGA which has been released by xilinx the virtex 4 and its a bit of a beast.
Its a system level fpga with things like 4 power pc processors,512 k SDRAM running at 500 Mhz,upto 512 18x18 multiply and accumulate slices also running at 500 Mhz,ethernet MACs,differental lv interfaces,source syncronous DDR memory interfaces,10 Gigabit transceivers upto 512 syncronous and asyncronous FIFOs all built into the fpga structure.Then youve got multi-million logic gate complex logic blocks.The only thing thats worrying me is what the hell you use them for.
