#90329 - Not Silicon Failures
Responding to: ???'s previous message

"Raghunathan]While that sounds funny, in reality a plane can never drop like a piece of rock just because some silicon failed !!"
It can, it can! I heard from an early Airbus that dropped to earth, because computer didn't allow the captain to invoke an emergency manoeuvre: Plane was dangerously close to earth, captain wanted to prevent something bad, but computer said "No, no" and plane crashed!

But that was a software error, not a silicon failure.

Another plane (not Airbus) crashed, because one of the two motors burned. That's not bad, if the captain can stop the burning motor. Captain did so, but due to a wiring mistake he didn't stop the burning motor, but the proper one...

And that was not silicon failure either.
