Dear Surendhran,
You are talking about a 20X4 LCD that has got a 17 pin connector. I and probably most of other forum members have never come across a 20X4 LCD having 17 pin connection. Can you tell us whats the brand of this LCD and where did you buy this from? Its possible that 17 pin is N/C. Have a look at the LCD's PCB and see if pin 17 is going some where or its going no where.
