one of projects I was involved, has utilized this flash. Due some reason we dropped that way and use Atmel Dataflash now. But what I may say is that - this was CPLD between MCU and Nand flash connected. As programmer I saw a couple of registers (data, address, command) and just wrote/read them. The rest write/read/erase tasks were done by CPLD.

Indeed you should maintain a table of bad blocks; if I remember right it has been placed in sector 0 which is guarantee error-free.
