#90924 - Re: selection on tolerances.
Responding to: ???'s previous message

I would feel that for one off or low volume production items it is a safe bet to use 0.1% resistors and be done with it. Selecting from a 1% batch brings another variable into the scheme - the accuracy of the DMM that is used. And then the TC is always there to play its part. Reason why I have long back stopped doing signal conditioners - best bought from a reliable source with a Cal. Certificate. The client is also satisfied.

The signal conditioners I am talking about is for very low volume product [ Max. 5 per month. ] & the quantity of precision resistors required is also very small 7 resistors/device. The DMM accuracy is certainly a very important issue. Is it ok if I use two diffrent brands DVM for this purpose and cross check. [ Yes, I already have two DVM's ].

In case of op-Amp type amplifiers often its the ratio of the resistor value that matters. Can I take advantage of this fact to compensate for DVM errors. For example If I am using 22k resistors and 11k resistors can I take advantage that if the ratio of the results by DVM is 2 it should work. Even if there is an error with DVM it will be linear.
