I agree with Michael. But an overwhelming motivation for the wallwart is to avoid having to put your kit through mains safety and UL/FM/LV directive certification. That's now the wallwart's manufacturer's responsibility. That's not to say you needn't put some sophisticated battery management circuitry into the device so you can use the cheapest, nastiest output wallwart on the market!
Slightly off-topic; now that there are quite a few Li-Ion charger IC's available that remove all possibility of mis-charging, anyone know if the cell manufacturers (Panasonic, for one) are allowing 'cretins' like us to buy these 'dangerous' devices? Dave |
