I am not sure why you are keen on biomedical instruments. To the extent I have seen, all these instruments need some kind of exotic sensor - be it a pulse oxymeter, heart beat monitor, drip metering units, or any kind of analytical stuff. And developing these involve one another handicap - you need to get most of the information from the bio medical guys. Engineering is not thier forte and extracting information will be quite trying. They just know how to use it and nothing more..
