#9271 - 8052.com Features / Bugs Fixed |
First, I wanted to mention that the bug that sometimes caused a reply to a thread to be posted as an entirely new thread seems to be fixed. Thanks to Sanjeev for correctly diagnosing how to reproduce the problem which made it very easy to fix.
Second, I've fixed another feature that had been bugging me: The option exists for registered users to set "Auto-Logoff" to "0" which means, theoretically, you will NEVER be logged off of 8052.com. This means that whenever you visit the site you should still be logged in from the last time you visited. This feature was previously broken--in fact, just closing the browser would log you off. This has now been fixed. Hopefully this will help us registered users post messages under our registered names rather than occasionally forgetting to login. :) Note: If you access and logon to 8052.com from two different computers, you'll automatically be logged off the first computer when you log on to the second computer. Third, the "User Profile" section has been expanded slightly to include one new field: "Online Resume." If you have your resume online and wish to make it available to other 8052.com users, by all means include the HTTP address to your resume. I would encourage everyone to enable their User Profile to the extent they feel comfortable doing so. I truly believe that our user profiles will better enable us to be an 8052 "community" rather than a bunch of strangers that happen to visit the same site occasionally. My current to-do list for 8052.com: 1. Have a "Remember Password" feature so that you will truly always be logged on, even if you logon from five different machines. This isn't a hard feature to add; I just need to fit it in with my work schedule. I hope to have this working by next week. 2. I'm currently working on getting a new home for the 8052.com server. Our current configuration has served us well, but 8052.com's connection to the Internet occasionally fails, and the bandwidth could be improved. Thus 8052.com will soon have a new home that will solve both of these problems. I expect this move to happen within a month. It is my hope that this transition will be relatively painless, but there may be a day or two where 8052.com will not be accessible as it makes this move. I also have a few ideas that I'd like to get everyone's opinion on: 1. I was thinking of providing a feature so that users will be able to see who is "online" at 8052.com in any given moment. This would produce a list of users something like "Craig Steiner, Steve Taylor, Peter Dannegger, and 18 unregistered users." This would mean Craig, Steve, and Peter were all logged on, along with another 18 people that were browsing the website but not logged on. I think this would be an interesting feature--not particularly useful, but interesting. Any thoughts? 2. I was thinking of adding a feature "Member Profiles" where all users who have chosen to enable their profiles will be listed alphabetically. Clicking on their names would show their profile. Currently, you have to read a message posted by the user to see their profile. What do you all think of these two days? Any other ideas that anyone would like to see implemented on 8052.com? Sorry for the long administrative post. :) Thanks, Craig Steiner 8052.com Webmaster |
