#95554 - Design decisions
Responding to: ???'s previous message

As for clocks 'biting' each other - I'm not too sure what is meant here.

Personally, for cpus on different boards i would normally use the cpu's crystal oscillator. If the cpu requires a high freq (as in overtone) crystal then I might think of using a oscillator module - most high speed micros use a pll so overtone crystals are becoming less of an issue. For the cost of a crystal and two caps, i think this method is cheaper and easier than trying to distribute high frequencies between circuit boards.

If the main link between the two micros is via the uart, we don't need to worry too much about clock synchronism effects - say we had dual port memory between the two micros then I would suggest a common clock.

****Bonus OT question******
With dual port memory - what would happen if cpu B is reading the same location as cpu A is writing??

So Prahlad, please explain more about this 'biting' behaviour!
