That would certainly be the safe approach.

Function pointers on the '51 certainly require a good understanding of the issues involved - so anyone who isn't prepared to put in the effort required (especially, reading Manuals) should certainly steer clear!

Like guns, function pointers can be very useful & effective in careful & trained hands - but lethal otherwise!

Function pointers need not use any more memory - but careless use can mess up the overlaying, and corrupt data...
