#96167 - Mechatronics Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Stanley,
20 years ago I wanted to do exactly what you want to do, but my life took a different path. I studied electronics, because "Engineer" defines who I am, not what I do, and I could have gone down either a mechanical or electronic path - I was (and am) equally interested in both. Ironically, much more than half my work now is mechanical. But good robots are not (as you have found) "Electronics" , nor are they "mechanical", the good ones (like Mitey Mouse) are "mechatronic", where both disciplines work in harmony to create a system. So my best suggestion is to look at schools offering mechatronics - certainly my old university Leeds (www.leeds.ac.uk) offers a course http://leva.leeds.ac.uk/edupd/mechatronics.htm Better still might be Manchester (www.manchester.ac.uk) - one of the highest rated universities in the UK. http://www.eee.manchester.ac.uk/undergrad...gineering/ Personally I would avoid the very expensive UK universities like Imperial College, the cost of living in London would kill you. As for US institutions, They have THE best post-grad programs, but their undergrad programs in engineering lack the focus of our courses. In the UK if you study engineering, thats it. No extra arts courses and minor subjects, so you get a lot for your three/four years. Email me off list if you want a reference. Steve |
