i have done some similar job , you could read about it here ,
http://8052.com/forum/thread.phtml?thread=89571 - Remmember not to use the 10uf Capacitor (used for AT89cxx series)and just use a 50k to 100k pulldown on the reset pin . - If you're using a flat cable to connect your board to the host board do not forget to include a ground in between of each signal connected at each end to ground. if possible it's better to use a shielded cable. keep the cable as short as possible. i just came out from the situation where my problem was the noise that was induced into the cable.
