#96645 - unwritten rules in '51 design |
Today, in a different thread (and I recall this was not for the first time) Erik Malund expressed a dislike for a certain SiLabs range of '51 clones, because they broke a certain unwritten rule, according to which the clones keep the position, the names and the meanings of the original 8051/8052 SFRs (and maybe more). It seems to me, that this "rule" is one of sources of the '51-planet popularity, probably due to the enhanced feeling of compatibility, i.e. that if needed, one can easily switch to a different derivative. Are there any other derivatives "violating" this "rule"? Any other comments? Jan Waclawek |
