Thanks for your kind reply, but reading the datasheet and app notes explains the operation of the device and more importantly, tells you about the averaging capacitor - this sets the response time of the measurement. If Prahlad wants to do a cycle by cycle measurement of RMS, then this may not be the best solution and his current method may be more applicable. At about $10USD per device, that buys a lot of micro, so Prahlad's current solution may be the most economical. You are right Russell I have read the datasheet & other RMS to DC appnotes several times available on www.analog.com & all these docs talk about settling time of tens of ms. And considering this settling time these RMS -> DC converters seems not useful for my cycle by cycle measurement. I had considered these RMS-DC convertors while designing my product some 8 months ago. But dropped this RMS-DC convertor Idea on account of their settling time. A couple of days ago in an US made controller which is used for exactly same application as my controller. I saw AD637 for RMS->DC conversion and thats why I posted here regarding the RMS-DC cycle by cycle issue. AD637 costs Rs. 2500/- (USD 55 ) through farnell. The main intention of posting here was to get suggestions / experience of others so that I can avoid trial and error but sad it turned into sort of flame. Thanks & Regards, Prahlad Purohit |
