Ah so. Certainly. I thought you mean a hardware glitch - maybe on some output line (may happen in such case, but as it's "emergency", it shouldn't matter methink). But the OP rejected the WD timeout (for his - certainly arguable - reasons), that's why I elaborated on the interrupt idea further.
