#99603 - floppy
Responding to: ???'s previous message
Oh, there are many solutions to how to access 5.25" diskettes:
1. first of all, there is almost no difference to 3.5" from the "cable" point of view except the connector, so you can still can connect it to a computer where a 3.5" interface is present
2. I think there are USB-to-3.5" boxes, so possibly the 3.5" drive could be replaced by the 5.25" drive there
3. Some super-IO interface chips support floppy-through-LPT, you need to check out if a driver is available for your system
4. for read-only, one could tie the floppy to a logic analyzer (1 channel is enough), manually control the step etc. signals and recor what comes out on read; then post-process the data
5. here comes the microcontroller project - in light of the bit-banged USB discussed in an another thread today, I would try to bit-bang the floppy from a faster microcontroller (LPC9xx?)
