Opto becomes a problem since on one side I will still require another supply. Is there a way to solve it with opto?

If FT232 is USB-powered, where is problem?

BTW, we sold 4k units ( powered by mains transformer, very simple -no spikes,big loads and so on), which incorpotated FT232RL. Can/shield of connector was NOT connected anywhere.
