I bet you have 10 5V sources at home ! Take one of the wall-wart power supplies for your printer or an old fax machine or something - look for one that give 9V < Vout < 12V. Get an LM7805 regulator and attach that to the PSU.

Are you using NVRAM instead perhaps ?
