Use an optocoupler, than your circuit is protected from voltages that can damage your microcontroller.
Search for a MIDI interface circuit to see how simple an optocoupler is used. Search for a 110/220V AC LED circuit used to feed the LED in the optocoupler or use a transformer. May be you can find here something: schematics |
