MP3 decoding is a DSP function, and I don't think an 8051 will do it. I think Atmel and Maxim have some good application notes on how many multiplies per second you need.
Secondly you are going to need some more memory, as even an MP3 file with heavy compression will need 4kbytes of storage per second of play time. As you will probably want to change the MP3 file easily you will need the storage to be Flash. Instead of taking some hardware and seeing if it will do the job I think you need to analyse the requirements and then choose hardware to match. |
