I think Andy got it right, just there is an another option - if a ROMless '51 is used (or /EA grounded) and the hardware is set so that a e.g. 16kB ROM/RAM located "normally" at 4000h is mirrored to 0000h, then it would work, too. Just I can not imagine, why...
