#102442 - ADUC848 project getting started
I have a project to design and program a system to pressure test specimens. I need to make an analog ramp that applies the pressure and then read the analog output of a pressure transducer. I also need to drive a 2 line display and transmit my readings on a serial line.

I've chosen the Analog Devices ADUC848 because its A/D and D/A have the resolution I need. I plan to purchase the Accutron Quick Start Plus development kit. With the hardware comes an assembler IDE and an eval version of Keil C51.

My problem right now is that I've never done any microprocessor development work before and I need to learn a lot of the basics to just get started. I've had courses in C and MC6800 machine code design but I never used them. In the early eighties I designed digital testers like this but it was with hard-wired CMOS logic and analog chips.

I guess my question is this: What else do I need to get this job done? I know I will need a "bible" on the 8051 and also stuff on program design. All your recommendations will be appreciated but I don't have much money to buy a lot of expensive books of marginal value.

Thanks in advance,

Donald A. Shepherd
