#102507 - books? Responding to: ???'s previous message |
but I sure would like to have read a book or two on the subject of embedded software design
a lot of books on embedded are books to glorify the author more than to enlighten the reader. If you decide to buy a book, make sure it is about "small embedded" not just "embedded". Some books stating to be about "embedded" refer to Linux as an embedded operating system. a few suggestions do you do C if yes, go to next, if no practice on the PC with PC programming using e,g, Kochnan: "programming in ANSI C" a book that is easy to self study with. get familiar with the hardware (see "bible" links above) You may want to investigate the purchase of a Keil compiler package (Expensive !) that way you get the best support in the world (here and at www.keil.com) what has been posted about the compiler that comes free with the ADuC kit has not been positive (e.g. how to learn all from an 8 page manual). You may want to consider using SILabs processors instead of the Analog Devices, the JTAG debugging interface is better than any I know. Especially as you are starting out having "ICE-like" debugging may be essential. Erik |
