Don't take the criticism (from Andy & Erik) to hard. Maybe they will contribute something positive to the thread.

If "contributing something positive to the thread" consist of providing the 22.111th 'public domain" LCD routine (I believe there are about 25 already at 8052.com - several in the code libray) then why bother reinventing the wheel.

you don't get it do you? there is such a thing as positive criticism. "well intended" hardly is a "crushing blow"

What good did that do? you did not add any comments. neither did you make the variable names meaningful.
